In Transit arrives!

The beautiful, new, album by Purdy, In Transit, has made it back from the presses.
This is Purdy's sixth album, which continues his outbound trajectory of sonic discovery.
With this album Purdy has utilized a live organic, intuitive approach, as he did with 2012's Illumination, but here there is stronger form and brighter colours. Six wonderful journeys with Purdy's classic cinematic and progxotic style.
Purdy has used comparatively few record samples for this release, with his field recordings being a prominent part of the samplogical extravaganza. 
All the instruments are played by him, except for those played by his extra special guests, Jim Denley - sax and flute, Simon Ferenci - trumpet, Amanda Stewart - voice and Peter Hollo - cello. Additional vocals Matt Leigh and John Kent, as well as a great many critters.
Mastering by William Bowden and Layout by Dale Harrison.

The Story So Far

Body Variations is off to a lovely start. 
The album has received some beautiful reviews, as well many radio features, including: Tim Ritchie's 'Sound Quality', on ABC RN and Andre Calman's 
'The Space Inbetween' on 2SER, Presenting the album in full. 
There were also special features on 'The Art of Bleep' on 3PBS and Jonathon Alley's 'Under the Sun' on 3RRR.

beauty, darkness, rocking shapes and signatures bathed in many colors.

Australian artist Purdy has just made his 5th solo album entitled 'Body Variations', and it is a song cycle without lyrics. Beguiling and straight forward, it is in the actual time it takes to listen to the whole piece that you find the complexity and treats that make it really worthwhile.

New Purdy track on New Weird Australia Broadcast Four

The wonderful folks at New Weird Australia (formerly of FBi FM fame) and Feral Media have released the 4th release in their radio broadcast series.
This latest mix includes a 'live on the radio' version of the track "First Light Through Mist" by Kevin Purdy, from the 'Illumination' LP.

August Update

Things have been moving along nicely for our latest release Illumination by Kevin Purdy.

It's been getting some lovely exposure by fine folks such as: Tim Ritchie (Sound Quality Radio National), Paul Gough (Quiet Space Radio National), Peter Hollo (Utility Fog FBi), Evan Carr (Art of Bleep PBS), Stu Buchanan (NWA FBi), Adrian Meade (4ZZZ) and Dr Strange Dub (Echo Chamber KFAI Minneapolis US). Most of these presenters have put up podcasts of their programs.

New Beginnings

Lots of stuff on the go here at Soft Records, but most importantly, our most beautiful new release 'Illumination' by Kevin Purdy

 'Illumination' the long-awaited new LP by Kevin Purdy has finally arrived on our shores. This beautiful 140gm vinyl lovely is loud and very good-looking. Kevin has stripped back his multi-layered production style, creating an album of deep and rich textural sound voyages. 
Focusing on his Ebo guitar and synth work, often heard floating around on Tooth and Purdy releases, Kevin has created a wonderous collection of ambient, minimal dub and improvised works. This is essentially a Kevin Purdy solo LP, excepting the last track, 'Cloud Shadows on Hill' which features a vocal performance by the legendary Amanda Stewart (Poet, performer: Machines For Making Sense, Metalog, etc). You can order the LP here or through Bandcamp, where you can alternatively download the album if you wish.You can also get yourself a copy of 'Illumination' in Sydney at Title Music, Egg Records and Red Eye Records, in Melbourne it's available at Round and Round Records in Brunswick.
